Being invited to a friends or family members wedding is usually a wonderful and exciting thing. It’s a day when two people who are in love and are going to commit to each other for the long-term. Thats the dream anyways. However, the thing to remember is this: There Are Rules!! And as a female guest of the wedding, then there are definitely some pitfalls to avoid. There are several rules for female guests regarding the dress you wear, and you must remember these if you want the evening to go well. With so many dresses to choose from, one might feel overwhelmed. If however, you can keep these rules in mind, you will be able to buy a dress that will not take away from the brides big day. And this way you can stay friends or remain in the family.
YOU MUST NOT WEAR WHITE!!! White should only be worn by the bride on her wedding day. Wearing this color is a huge mistake that unfortunately, many people make, especially during the summer. If you break this rule, people will believe that you are purposely being rude and that you are trying to upstage the bride, and this will get you into hot water faster than you can blink. Don’t be that person! Ever! So be sure that whatever dress you choose, it is not mainly white in color. It can have white, it just should not be primarily white.
And stay away from the bridal party colors too. Of course, depending on how close you are to the bride or groom, you may not have access to that information. If you can, you should ask someone that is close to the bride or groom if they are aware of the color theme. The reason to avoid wearing these colors is to ensure that you will not be confused as being in the wedding party. If you can’t get a confirmation on what colors to avoid, then just pick a dress that has a pattern, as bridesmaid dresses are typically one solid color.
It is also best to wear something that is modest in nature. This does not mean that your dress has to be long or not show skin, but it should not be something extremely form fitting or particularly sexy. This can also be viewed as trying to look better than the bride, who should be the focus of everyone’s attention. Simply put, you want to select from wedding guest dresses that make you feel attractive and comfortable, but does not draw too much attention.
Finally, be sure that the dress will be something that you will be comfortable wearing through the night. You do not want to spend hours at a wedding and reception feeling uncomfortable. If you’re ordering a dress online, make sure that you have enough time to find a new one if it doesn’t fit as expected. If you can, wear it for a while to be sure that you won’t be pulling it up or down when walking, sitting, dancing or anything else you might do at a wedding.
The key here is to find a dress that you will love and feel great in.
